Command Mode

Command Mode lets you run Mezzanine from a chat beside the page. You say what you want, such as pay this invoice, what needs my approval or how much did we spend on contractors last month, and it finds the records, answers from them, and opens the screen where you finish the job. It never approves, sends, signs or saves anything itself: you do that on the screen it opens, the same screen you’d use without it.

Click Command at the top of the sidebar, under your organization’s name, or press ⌘K. Do the same again to leave. Leaving keeps your conversation: come back in the same tab and it picks up where you left off. A new tab or a fresh login starts a new chat, though a link that still names the conversation can reopen it.

  • You know what you want, not where it is. Ask for it in your own words and the right screen opens, already filled in where it can be.
  • Catching up after time away. Catch me up lists what’s waiting on you and what changed, with a way into each.
  • Quick answers from your own records. Balances, recent payments, who approved what, what a bill is for: it reads them and shows you where each answer came from.
  • Starting a payment from a document. Drop an invoice into the chat and it reads the details into a bill for you to check.
  1. You ask in the box at the bottom of the chat, or pick from Actions.
  2. It reads Mezzanine as you. It sees what your permissions let you see, and nothing more.
  3. It answers, and opens what you need in the panel beside the chat: a record, a list, or a form filled in as far as it can be. Every record, person, account and page it names is a link that opens in the panel, and a form it offers shows as a button. An address or a contact’s onboarding link shows with a copy icon: clicking it copies it, and nothing opens.
  4. You act in the panel. Approving, sending, signing and saving happen there, with the same checks and approvals as always.
  5. It tells you what happened. After you act, the chat notes it and says what happens next and who does it.
  • When you’re starting the day, or coming back from time away: Catch me up.
  • When you want to pay, approve, receive or convert money and would rather say so than find the page.
  • When you have a question about your organization’s money or records and the answer is spread over several pages.
  • When you have an invoice to pay and want it turned into a bill.
  • Header. Mezzanine, and the model in use, Sonnet or Opus. Sonnet is the default. Your choice applies from your next message, and Mezzanine remembers it in this browser. The ⋮ menu holds New conversation, which starts again with an empty chat.
  • The box. It reads Pay, approve, receive, convert, analyze, or ask. Type and click Send. While a reply is on its way, Send becomes Stop: click it to end the reply there.
  • Attaching an invoice. Click the paperclip, or drop the file on the chat. It’s uploaded the same way as Upload invoice anywhere else, and read into a bill for you to check.
  • Actions and Catch me up, under the box. Actions lists the everyday jobs, such as Pay someone, Pay a bill, Approve payments, Move funds and Receive money. Picking one opens its screen in the panel, and for most of them the chat starts helping straight away.
  • Cards. Some replies come with a card: choices to pick from, a summary of something prepared for you, or a short timeline. None of them commits anything. A card that prepares something has Review in panel, which opens it for you to check and finish.
  • Notes. Short centred lines in the chat record what you did in the panel (You submitted Amgen., where the name opens the record), a reply you stopped, or a request that failed.

Exactly what you can see in Mezzanine. Every question it answers is asked as you, through the same permissions as the rest of the product. If a teammate can’t see an account, neither can Command Mode when they use it. If you ask for something you don’t have permission to see, it names the permission you need and offers to request it, instead of guessing.

It never sees, whatever your permissions:

  • Identity documents, such as passports, company registration papers and the evidence attached to an identity or wallet check.
  • Full account numbers. It sees the last four digits, for everyone, Admins included.
  • Tax IDs. No part of one, for anyone.
  • Passwords, keys and other secrets, such as an exchange account’s API keys.
  • It can’t approve, send, sign or save. No button in the chat commits anything. It opens the screen; you finish there, with the usual approvals.
  • It can’t change your permissions or anyone else’s. It works within the access you already have.
  • It can’t be used on a phone. On a phone, ⌘K and the Command link don’t appear, and the page opens without the chat.

Command Mode is on for every organization unless someone turns it off. The switch is in System Controls → Organization Settings, under AI: Run Mezzanine from a chat beside the page. It reads what each person can see and opens screens for them to act in. It never approves, sends or signs. People see only what their own permissions allow. Each person’s conversations are private to them and deleted after 30 days.

  • To turn it on, flip the switch. It saves at once, and you see Command Mode turned on.
  • To turn it off, flip the switch. You’re asked Turn off Command Mode?: “The Command button and Home’s composer go away for everyone in your organization.” Click Turn off to confirm, or Cancel.

While it’s off, pressing ⌘K shows “Command Mode is off for your organization. An Admin can turn it on in Organization Settings.”

History, under the switch, lists each time it was turned on or off and who did it, newest first.

Each organization has a daily allowance for Command Mode, shared by everyone in it. Today’s allowance, under the switch, shows how much is used, such as “40% used. Resets at 5:00 PM.”, with a bar. The reset is midnight UTC, shown in your own time.

When the allowance runs out, the chat shows “Your organization has used today’s Command allowance. It resets at time.” above the box, and the box stays closed until then. Everything else in Mezzanine, including the panel beside the chat, keeps working.

  • Your conversations are yours. Each conversation is readable only by the person who had it. Admins and teammates can’t read it.
  • They’re deleted after 30 days. A conversation is kept for 30 days after its last message, then deleted.
  • What you do in the panel is recorded as it always is. A payment you approve or a contact you add appears in your organization’s records and activity exactly as it would without Command Mode.

Everyone in an organization where Command Mode is on can use it. What it shows each person depends on their own permissions (see What it can see).
