Recurring Payments
A recurring payment is a standing instruction: pay this person this amount, every month (or week, or quarter). Mezzanine creates a draft for each payment ahead of its due date, and each one still goes through approval before any money moves. This page lists every schedule your organization has, and is where you change or stop one.
You’ll find it in the sidebar under Send Money → Recurring Payments.
Why use it
Section titled “Why use it”- Regular bills don’t get missed. Retainers, rent, payroll-style contributor payments and subscriptions each get a fresh draft on time.
- Every payment is still approved. A schedule never sends money on its own. Each draft needs publishing and approval like any other payment, so a schedule set up months ago can’t quietly pay a wallet nobody checked.
- One place to see what’s committed. The list shows who you pay, how much, how often and when the next one is due.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”- You set up the schedule from Bill Pay or Internal Transfers, by switching the form to Recurring Payment.
- You choose how often, when it starts and when it ends. The form previews the next payment dates.
- Mezzanine creates a draft two days before each due date. If the first payment is due within two days, its draft is created straight away.
- Each draft is published, approved and sent as usual. See Approve, sign and send a payment.
- The schedule stops on its end date, or when you cancel it.
For the click-by-click version, see Set up a recurring payment.
When to use it
Section titled “When to use it”- You pay the same amount to the same person on a fixed cycle.
- You top up an operating account on a schedule.
- You want a record of what’s committed, for budgeting or a board update.
If the amount changes each time, a one-off bill each period may suit you better.
Using the page
Section titled “Using the page”Each row is one schedule, with its Recipient, Destination, Funding Source, Entity, Amount, Asset, Frequency, Next Payment and End Condition. Click a recipient or account name to see its details.
- End Condition shows Until Cancelled, or the date the schedule ends.
- Next Payment shows the next due date, or Ended when no more payments are due.
- Tick Show cancelled to see schedules that are no longer running. They appear faded.
On an active row:
- The pencil icon (Edit recurring payment) opens the schedule for editing. Changes apply to future payments only. You can’t change the start date.
- The cancel icon (Cancel recurring payment) stops the schedule. You’re asked to confirm with Cancel series, or back out with Keep active.
If you have no schedules yet, the page says No recurring payments found
.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Frequencies: Weekly, Every Two Weeks, Monthly, Quarterly and Annually.
- End conditions: Until Cancelled runs until someone cancels it. After End Date stops after the date you choose, which must be after the start date.
- Cancelling doesn’t touch drafts already created.
Drafts already created will not be affected.
To drop one you no longer want, choose Reject from its row’s options menu on the DRAFTS tab. - Editing works the same way. Drafts already created keep the old details.
- Dates are shown in UTC, on this page and in the form’s preview.
Who can use it
Section titled “Who can use it”| To… | You need the permission |
|---|---|
| See this page | View recurring payments |
| Create, edit or cancel a schedule | Manage recurring payments |
| Open the Bill Pay or Internal Transfers form to create one | View outgoing transfers, plus Propose bill payments or Propose internal transfers |
The page needs the Approve Payments app installed in the App Library.
Without View recurring payments, the page says You can’t view recurring payments
and lets you request it. Without Manage recurring payments, the edit and cancel icons explain why when you click them.
